“Black Moses” is the 1971, fifth studio album by Tennessee soul and funk legend Isaac Hayes. Released admits political turmoil in the United States, Hayes takes his time on this record expressing his emotions to the fullest with his deep, soulful singing doing much of the heavy lifting over grandiose, epic production provided by Stax Records backing bands The Mar Keys and The Isaac Hayes Movement.
Consisting of several covers, including his Billboard Top 100 Hit cover of the Jackson 5’s “Never Can Say Goodbye”, “Black Moses” was released to both critical and commercial acclaim. The album has been sampled or interpolated numerous times in popular music ever since.
Key highlights:
“Never Can Say Goodbye”
“They Long To Be (Close To You)”
“Man’s Temptation”
“Never Gonna Give You Up”
“Ike’s Rap II / Help Me Love You”
